COACHING POSITION:

Head Men's Coach, Skidmore College

Interview

How did you first become involved with the NSCAA?
I was part of the first staff.

Why do you continue to stay involved with the NSCAA?
It's the best organization for coaching education.

Why do you like teaching NSCAA courses?
Great environment.

What is your favorite NSCAA course to teach and why?
I like them all, but the Advanced National is probably my favorite.

What is the best thing about the NSCAA Academy?
The staff!

Who is your all-time favorite player?
Jeff Tipping - Incredibly gifted and talented player who inspired all - and also Michael Platini.

Who are/were your mentors in soccer?
Walt Chyzowych, Tom Fleck, Bob McNulty, Keith Blunt, Roy Hodgson

Who are your mentors in the coaching profession?
Could use one?

What advice would you give to young coaches?
Change with the times. It's about players, not you!

What is your favorite book and why?
Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand - talks and shows how the world works and how mediocrity rises at the expense of the best with ideals and ethics.

What is your favorite movie and why?
The Pink Panther series because it made me and everyone laugh. The Party with Peter Sellers is a close second.

What is the last book you read?
Father Joe - Tony Hendra

If you could be anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
Jeff Tipping - so I could jet all over the world under the guise of a soccer guru in the world or my deceased dog, who was treated better than royalty and only worried about his next meal. Really though - Mahatma Ghandi - to experience the peace and dedication to which one would give his life.
